LAD 30

Linda Brown had to walk over mile to school every day even when there was a white school right around the corner. Her father talked to the NAACP in their area, and they started the proceedings of a case against the school district for not letting Linda go to a closer school. Thurgood Marshall was her lawyer. He successfully argued that separate was not equal and that segregated schools gave black children an inferiority complex that stayed with them for life. Earl Warren was in charge of the Supreme court and got an unanimous ruling in favor of Brown. This started the desegregation of schools around the country.

TheBritish Embassy told the U.S. State Department officials that Great Britain could no longer provide financial aid to the governments of Greece and Turkey. America had been monitoring Greece's crumbling economic and political conditions. The United States had also been following events in Turkey, When Britain announced that it would withdraw aid to Greece and Turkey, the responsibility was passed on to the United States. President Truman stressed the severity of the crisis in an address to Congress. March 12, 1947, President Harry S. Truman asked for $400 million in assistance for Greece and Turkey and established a doctrine, aptly characterized the Truman Doctrine. Basically it said that the United States will help any country in fear of a ommunist takover.

The Act prohibits one person from being the director of two corporations. The Clayton Anti-Trust Act has important revisions that the Sherman Anti-Trust Act lacked. The Act prohibits price discrimination if it lessens competition. It also prohibits exclusive dealings and "tying," more practices that hurt competition. In addition, mergers and acquisitions that threatened competition were prohibited as well.the Act states that any violations of the laws it establishes may result in a court case.Furthermore there is an important clause in section 17, which states that the anti-trust laws articulated in the Act are not applicable to labor organizations.

LAD 23

With seven section the act details labor laws. The first section bans any product of child labor. The next section allows the Attorney General, the Secretary of Commerce and the Secretary of Labor to enforce the Act. The third gives the Secretary of Labor the right to inspect anwhere deamed to have strayed from the act. 4 and 5 clarify the documentation and repercutions of breaking these labor laws. 6 further goes on to explain that the act pertains to all commerce in America. Finally factories and facilities have to be following all sections by the end of the year after it is passed.

Wilson says that the legislative and executive branches have become Democratbecause the democratic party can change for the people. He further denounces corruption in governement and that the gov. is for the people rather than their party. He calls for import tarriff reduction, and follows Roosevelt with his conservationism, a new nation banking system, and further cutbacks on big bussiness. He follows Roosevelt in his progressive thoughts socially. Hence he want good men to run the contry to allow it to pregress to a further state.

LAD 20

This was Bryan's "cross of Gold speech. He was a democratic delegate that was trying to get the nod for presidency. He delivered a heartfelt speech about democratic brothers against brothers over the silver markets in American coinage. He just basically says that the democratic party is dominant and awsum. He makes everyone feel good about his speech because of his use of logic over supposedly unconstitutional actions.

The Populist Party platform, was written for a socialist organization knwon as the populist party. htey represented 1/3rd of the independant vote duuring the late 1800's. htey belived that industrialism was evil. This manifesto of their belifs just asked for unrigged elections, end of laizez faire, the beiginning of socialism among other things. To me it was a scary time when peole wanted thigns that the government oculdnt provide, becuase where is the governement gonna get money they dont have? This brand of socialists also had a probelm with the practical termination of silver backed currency. I would jsut like to remind that silver is way to flexible to back currency. in the comstock load alone 600 billion dollars worth of silver was found, think about how that would shake our currency and make it worth nothing if another large load was found.
